Basierend auf Ellenbergers Werk „Die Entdeckung des Unbewußten“ soll gezeigt werden, dass Sigmund Freud Erbe einer bestimmten geistigen culture conflict, ohne die er seine Ideen nicht hätte derart entwickeln und durchsetzen können, und es ihm dadurch ermöglicht wurde, selber zum Urheber einer eigenen, bis dahin nie so formulierten, Geistesströmung zu werden. Im Besonderen wird Freuds Werk auf die Einflüsse der Arbeiten Schopenhauers und Nietzsches untersucht, welche beide als wichtige Vorreiter der Tiefenpsychologie gelten.
